STORY OF THE DAY

We visited the North West town where almost nobody votes

By Rebecca Davis and Victoria O’Regan

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING

🇮🇱🇺🇸 Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would oppose any sanctions on military units accused of rights violations. After media reports said the US was considering doing just that, specifically on the Netzah Yehuda battalion.
🇺🇦🇷🇺 Ukraine said it hit a Russian salvage vessel in Sevastopol in Crimea. The ship is reportedly one of the oldest operated in the Russian navy, having launched in 1913. That service length may just have ended.
🇺🇦🇷🇺 While the Russian navy was busy losing ships, its landward forces have claimed to have taken control of the Ukrainian settlement of Bohdanivka. Just west of Bakhmut, the village does not seem strategically vital for Kyiv.
🇯🇵⚾ Star Major League Baseball hitter Shohei Ohtani has shot into the record books. Ohtani managed his 176th home run for the Los Angeles Dodgers, breaking the league’s record for Japanese-born players, in a 10-0 victory against the New York Mets on Sunday.
