Why is the unbearable cost of living not an obvious political weapon for election campaigns?

With just weeks until our elections, it seems unlikely that the ever more unaffordable cost of living will become a major issue. This comes as a surprise, as it is obvious that life now is much harder than it was five years ago. And yet, this may simply be because no single party has a comprehensive workable solution to our crisis, making other issues relatively easier to focus on.

WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING
🇮🇱↪️ Israel announced on Sunday that it had withdrawn all but a single military brigade from southern Gaza. The move came as ceasefire negotiations were prepped to begin afresh in Egypt.
🇿🇦⛈️ Intensely strong winds and storms have wreaked havoc on Cape Town and surrounding areas including Glencairn and Cape Winelands. The Huguenot Tunnel on the N1 has been closed. Several properties were destroyed in fires, while the South African Weather Service issued level 9 warnings for parts of the Cape Winelands and Overberg districts.
🌍🏃 Extreme runner Russ Cook has become the first person to run the length of Africa. Despite a brief pause in Angola after being robbed at gunpoint, Cook managed the feat in 352 days and finished in Tunisia. He calls himself the “Hardest Geezer”, and he might well be.
🇿🇦⛳ Dean Burmester has defeated Sergio Garcia to clinch the LIV Golf Miami title. South African Burmester won the second playoff hole and, with it, a cool $4-million.
