Acapulco Disaster: What can you do?

As Acapulco slowly stands up after this completely devastating event there is a pungent smell of sewage and decay permeating everything. The concerns of cholera and diphtheria are valid. This is a crucial time to deliver aid to these people.

You may have heard the devastating news that this past Wednesday, Acapulco was hit by a shockingly extreme and fast-forming hurricane. The destruction is extensive, and many people have been left homeless with all of their possessions blown away by the winds. The situation is dire, and the people of Acapulco are in urgent need of assistance. The Anarchapulco team and Jeff Berwick are doing all we can.

This is an update on the relief efforts that have been taking place in Acapulco. Jeff has been leading the efforts and we are incredibly grateful for the support that we have received so far.

To date, many community members who reside in Acapulco have been confirmed safe. We are still looking for others who have not made contact. There are hundreds of displaced people and many dead (there are a lot of conflicting reports but people who are present report bodies washing up on beaches along the bay). Jeff has been sending trucks with food and supplies and we are actively helping the area between Barra Vieja and La Cima, including Diamante and La Isla. We are focused primarily on helping those we work with locally in the Anarchapulco community. This means we are setting up soup kitchens and resource centers in those areas.

We have seen no other agencies present in this area delivering food or water. The government’s efforts are centered near downtown.

WE NEED HELP:
We still need help from people with vehicles who can come with a secondary driver to deliver the necessities to the people in need. We can cover the costs for those who are willing to shop and drive.

The reports of bad things happening to those delivering aid have been talked about in the media, but we have not experienced this on the ground. Our vehicles had no issue getting there.

Right now we have nearly 1 million people who have been displaced by this extreme hurricane and many people around the world still are unaware that this is happening.

We need everyone who can to contribute in any small or big way. We are using the donations from the GoFundMe page to buy food, water, and other necessities for the people in those communities. We are incredibly grateful for the support that we have received so far, but there is still much work to be done. Together, we can make a positive impact and help those who took care of us for the last 9 years during the Anarchapulco Conference.

This year really is about Rebirth, let’s do it together!

PS: This is what Anarchy is all about – standing up and helping when needed. And we are so happy to do it… especially now that our drivers are reporting that there are no other agencies on the ground in those neighborhoods.

We are doing everything we can to provide aid to those in need, and the military is working alongside us to support our efforts. Despite the reports of bad things happening, we have not experienced them on the ground. Our vehicles had no issue getting there. We urge you to continue supporting our relief efforts, as nearly 1 million people have been displaced in the hurricane.

Even $10 will help get some people food and water, so please, do what you can to help.
