Proponents of stricter gun laws typically point to Western Europe and the Pacific Rim as examples of countries with stricter gun laws and lower homicide rates. But they never point to the example of Latin America or the Caribbean which also has stricter gun laws, but the highest homicide rates in the world. For a lot of reasons, the USA is more analogous to Latin America than Western Europe much less East Asia. Canada is basically a European country that happens to be located in North America, but the USA is more like an English-speaking Latin American country due to a wide range of factors.
