‘Make America Florida.’ Ron DeSantis goes national with an eye toward the White House

I suspect it is more of a case of DeSantis being cultivated as a replacement for Trump. It’s clear that the system is trying to eliminate Trump by pressuring him to stay out of politics. Things like the indictment of his company, the arrest of his CFO, and revoking Giuliani’s law license (it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy) seem calculated to send the message to Trump that “this can get worse.” I suspect one reason they didn’t directly indict Trump is that they are worried that might be pushing things too far and inspire some more January 6 moments. Meanwhile, DeSantis is being groomed as a replacement who appeals to the same MAGA crowd, but who is more of a conventional Republican and not a loose cannon like Trump, and who can be more effectively managed as controlled opposition. The Republicans at this point are merely an alliance of arms merchants and Chamber of Commerce types with Likudniks and the Saudis, so the only criteria for being a successful Republican politician is to reduce taxes for the rich, maintain Israel and Saudi Arabia as export markets for arms manufacturers underwritten taxpayers, and eliminating their enemies in the Middle East (hence, the persistent Republican hysteria over Iran).

Gov. Ron DeSantis had come to Pensacola to deliver a message to President Joe Biden.

He stood at a lectern with a sign that proclaimed “Secure our border. Secure our states.” Then he unleashed as the cameras rolled.
