Trump gears up for war with his own party

I wish Trump luck with this. A Trumpist third party would neutralize the Republicans. Fragmenting the right-wing into two parties where neither can get the upper hand but where both collectively can constrain the Democrats sounds about right.

There’s no longer a chief of staff to screen his calls and he keeps no predictable working hours. So an unspoken rule has governed Donald Trump’s calendar since he left Washington last month: To sit down with the former president, you must belong to his posh Palm Beach club or know how to contact him directly.

But even that won’t always do it. For weeks now, Trump has rejected meetings with everyone from former South Carolina governor and 2024 hopeful Nikki Haley to House and Senate GOP candidates vying for his ear — preferring to spend his days leisurely calling friends, binging cable news, golfing with a rotating cast of partners and basking in standing ovations whenever he arrives for dinner on Mar-a-Lago’s outdoor patio. One person close to the ex-president said he’s become “unreachable” to anyone outside his limited circle of loyal aides, longtime friends and die-hard political allies.

  1. Let’s not forget that on about March 16, 2016, the MSM admitted that they had given Trump $2 in free publicity. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/16/upshot/measuring-donald-trumps-mammoth-advantage-in-free-media.html

They weren’t trying to get Trump to win the general election, but they were trying to get the Republicans to choose Trump as a candidate. They figured that he was the most beatable candidate. They succeeded…in the latter. But they failed…in the former. Trump won.

But that means that the people most responsible for putting Trump into the position to win were…the MSM and the Democrats. Blame them. I do.

From doing a Google search on: ‘Trump $2 billion free publicity’. Best to limit your search to 2016 to find the relevant material more quickly.

$2 Billion Worth of Free Media for Donald Trump

By Nicholas Confessore and Karen Yourish

“Of all the ways Donald Trump has shocked the political system, one of the most significant is how he wins primary after primary with one of the smallest campaign budgets.

“He still doesn’t have a super PAC. He skimped on ground organization and field offices. Most important, he spent less on television advertising — typically the single biggest expenditure for a campaign — than any other major candidate, according to an analysis by SMG Delta, a firm that tracks television advertising.

“But Mr. Trump is hardly absent from the airwaves. Like all candidates, he benefits from what is known as earned media: news and commentary about his campaign on television, in newspapers and magazines, and on social media. Earned media typically dwarfs paid media in a campaign. The big difference between Mr. Trump and other candidates is that he is far better than any other candidate — maybe than any candidate ever — at earning media.

“No one knows this better than mediaQuant, a firm that tracks media coverage of each candidate and computes a dollar value based on advertising rates. The mentions are weighted by the reach of the media source, meaning how many people were likely to see it. The calculation also includes traditional media of all types, print, broadcast or otherwise, as well as online-only sources like Facebook, Twitter or Reddit.
