Oregon Police Beg Public to Stop Calling In False Reports Blaming Antifa for Wildfires

By Robert Mackey

The Intercept

Four police departments in parts of Oregon ravaged by wildfires — propelled by high winds across parched land during hot, dry weather in a changing climate — are pleading with the public to stop calling 911 to pass on unfounded rumors that antifascist political activists have intentionally set the blazes.

The false claims have been spread on social networks by supporters of President Donald Trump, who has spent months pretending that antifascists in the Pacific Northwest dedicated to confronting white supremacists are members of an imaginary army of domestic terrorists called Antifa.

Primed by that fear-mongering, the president’s supporters have fallen hard for internet hoaxes falsely claiming that antifascist arsonists have been caught in the act.

  1. “False claims that antifascists are starting forest fires have been spread by supporters of President Donald Trump.”

    I think it’s way too early to call those “false claims”. How would we know? At the same time, it’s probably too early to call them “true claims”, either.

    I should say that for at least the last 30 years, there has been a system in place to monitor lightning strikes in America, with a series of antennas picking up the radio signals emanating from that lightning, and triangulating from their origins. Iit is available online.;t=3;s=0;o=0;b=;ts=0;y=9.5357;x=-71.8066;z=3;d=2;dl=2;dc=0;

    Using that system, forest fires caused by lightning can be distinguished.

    • I heard it’s the Lizard People. It’s too early to call these “false claims” that it’s Lizard People working in tandem with Big Foot.

      In all seriousness, the yokels are riled up and have threatened journalists in the area, claiming they are “Antifa”. As far as I know the only fires that protesters have been interested in setting have been inside of police stations and the police union building in Portland, and this was only prior to the dry conditions we’ve seen lately. Communications I have seen in protest chats indicate that protesters have been marching with fire extinguishers and have invited fire fighters to march with them.

      What we have is a combination of extreme weather events over a three day weekend when Americans can’t help but barbecue, camp, set off fire works, and flick cigarette butts out of their car windows.
