SANTA FE — KOB Eyewitness News 4 was there Thursday morning as the family of Jeanette Anaya rushed to the scene, begging state police for answers about her death.
Anaya’s sister and niece said she would have never led police on a chase and they don’t know why they shot her.
“We don’t know what happened. This is just a tragedy. She was a young, beautiful, vibrant, happy girl,” Jackie Anaya said. “When they informed us this morning, the police officers said that she, it was a high speed chase and that she was shot.”
When KOB spoke to Anaya’s family Thursday morning, few details had been released about the shooting. But now, state police say the officer shot Anaya because she “aggressively” backed up her car toward him and hit the police car.
“She almost made it home. She was seriously, all she had to do was go to the stop sign and turn left and she was home,” said Michaela Anaya, Jeanette’s niece.
Anaya’s family said something isn’t adding up.
“If she’s getting pulled over and she knows she’s getting pulled over, she’s going to stop. That’s what doesn’t make sense to me,” Michaela said.
