HOW COOKED ARE WE? W Cenk Uygur

Episode 244 with Cenk Uygur

Well, things have long been taking a turn for the worse — but this week’s turn has felt especially sharp. We’ve got Cenk Uygur on the pod this week to walk through the insane fallout from Charlie Kirk’s death, what this means for media personalities across the political spectrum, and a little debate on how best to approach Trump 2.0. Watch below:

After TPUSA founder and right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk was shot last week, the American political landscape has reacted with everything from shock to sympathy to outrage to apathy — and, in the case of conservatives within and beyond the White House, to identifying the shooter as a left-winger and demonizing trans people for a roommate’s perceived involvement. Things have spiraled quickly into a dark moment for freedom of speech. People have been fired from their jobs for voicing negative opinions about Kirk, others have been doxxed, and as a recent media flurry has focused on, Jimmy Kimmel’s show has been suspended for some pretty benign remarks about the conservative freakout.

These are troubling times. Trump’s orders to fly flags at half mast, a bill to inaugurate a Charlie Kirk Day, and most of all the targeting of Kirk’s critics are deeply worrying for the crackdown on freedom of expression — and basic personal safety — that they represent for Americans. In our convo with Cenk, we make sense of a scary period in our country’s history — and how we’re going to get through it.
