Chinese Perspectives on Cosmopolitanism

As the United States and Europe consider the way in which they imagine that China would fit into a global order, Chinese intellectuals have been developing their own thoughts on what cosmopolitanism might mean from a Chinese perspective. A range of ideas has been developing in the last couple of decades on how China might establish its own vision of global order, and Eric Hendriks-Kim analyzes in his essay in Telos 201 both the long history of notions of cosmopolitanism in China as well as the most recent theorizing. In our podcast discussion, we consider the political import of the different approaches and the extent to which they might conflict with or complement Western ideas.
