Commencement speeches often give great advice on how to succeed, whom to befriend, and whom to love, but they never focus on the importance of hatred. I believe that choosing whom you will never speak to again can be as helpful as choosing whom to marry.
Rational hatred has been a tool we’ve used since the cave days. Back then, if another caveman tried to steal your mate or your food or your cave, you’d smash his skull with a rock.
This Holy Trinity of untouchables—your mate, your food, and your cave—is still sacrosanct today, although today we’ve replaced “You’re dead” with “You’re dead to me.”
In Scotland, never speaking to someone again is celebrated as a sign of character. I remember my grandfather in Glasgow telling me that someone had crossed him, and he leaned in close before whispering: “I never spoke to him again.” Then he sat up like he had told me the best thing in the world and added, “That was 35 years ago.”
This isn’t something to be proud of if you can’t remember why it happened. You have to stick to the basic three: mate, hunt, and cave. If the double-cross was too irrelevant to remember, it wasn’t worth the social boycott.
“Rational hatred has been a tool we’ve used since the cave days.”
IT IS ONE of the world’s most secretive and high-powered groups – bringing together figures from the political, financial, diplomatic, corporate and media worlds in a confidential four-day conference discussing all manner of sensitive topics.
Today, TheJournal.ie can shine a light on some of the inner workings of the Bilderberg conference – an annual meeting where the world’s most powerful and influential people meet to discuss the shape of the world and what can be done to improve it.
Documents obtained under Freedom of Information legislation reveal the full agenda of the 2012 meeting, which counted Ireland’s Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan, among its attendees.
They also provide previously unconfirmed details about the protocol and nature of the invite-only event – the secrecy of which often prompts accusations that the group’s ultimate task is either the advance of capitalism worldwide, or the formation of a unified global government.

The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit against a middle school for allegedly violating the Constitution and federal law by segregating classes by sex.
Van Devender Middle School in West Virginia implemented a single-sex education program at the start of the 2010-2011 school year for all incoming sixth graders. Reading, math, social studies and science classes were all segregated by gender.
“Supporters of these programs make completely unfounded generalizations about boys and girls, but offer no proof that these strategies pay off academically,” said Sarah Rogers, staff attorney with the ACLU of West Virginia. “What has been proven, however, is that these programs foster stereotypes and hurt kids who don’t fit the idea of how a stereotypical boy or girl is supposed to learn and behave.”
A topless activist was captured on camera on Friday while chainsawing a crucifix in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. Inna Shevchenko, 22, told RBK News she tore down the symbol in support of the members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot.
Shevchenko, of the activist group FEMEN, destroyed the four-meter high wooden crucifix, just as a Moscow court was due to deliver its verdict in the Pussy Riot case, Reuters details.

“We want to show the authorities that no imbecile has the right to trample on freedom of speech and the rights of women and shut [Pussy Riot] away in jail,” a FEMEN spokesperson told Russian news agency RT.

Moscow’s most powerful court has ruled to uphold a ban on LGBT pride parades in the Russian capital for 100 years, according to the BBC. The ruling places a major Russian city athwart the directives of the European Court of Human Rights for a second time with regards to LGBT rights in suits brought by that country’s most prominent LGBT activist, Nikolay Alexeyev.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said Thursday that shooting suspect Floyd Lee Corkins II was “given a license” to fire at an FRC security guard by organizations including the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).
Immediately after, a SPLC spokesman called Perkins’ comment “outrageous.”

According to all the media headlines about a new White House report, there’s still a big pay gap between men and women in America. The report found that women earn 75 cents for every dollar men make. Sounds pretty conclusive, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not. It’s misleading.

A South African platinum mine turned into something akin to a war zone yesterday when an attempt by riot police to break up a week-old dispute by workers resulted in the deaths of up to 18 people.

Conservatives on Wednesday blasted the Southern Poverty Law Center after a gunman shot a security guard in the front lobby of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C.
The Southern Poverty Law Center had labeled the organization a hate group in 2010 “because of its dissemination of false and demonizing propaganda about gays and lesbians.” The Southern Poverty Law Center is frequently attacked by some conservatives, who claim it is politically-biased in favor of liberals.
“Today’s attack is the clearest sign we’ve seen that labeling pro-marriage groups as ‘hateful’ must end,” said Brian Brown, President of NOM.
“For too long national gay rights groups have intentionally marginalized and ostracized pro-marriage groups and individuals by labeling them as ‘hateful’ and ‘bigoted’ — such harmful and dangerous labels deserve no place in our civil society and NOM renews its call today for gay rights groups and the Southern Poverty Law Center to withdraw such incendiary rhetoric from a debate that involves millions of good Americans,” he added.

The sight of the image of America’s first black president juxtaposed next to a Confederate flag may be jarring to some, but 16-year-old Lee County resident Ryan Turner, the founder of the grassroots “Rednecks for Obama” movement (or something), says the use of the images together is meant to show that the president has broad support.
Turner’s father died ten years ago from prostate cancer. The disease could have been easily treatable, but the elder Turner was without health insurance and passed away. Ryan Turner believes Obamacare would prevent such needless deaths in the future.
Turner started a “Rednecks for Obama” Facebook page and on the opening of the new Lee County Democrats headquarters he brought a flag which combined Shepard Fairey’s famous “Hope” poster with the Confederate flag.
“If somebody is offended by it, I can understand it because they’re only seeing one half of the flag,” Ryan’s uncle Tony Turner told NBC2.
“We’re rednecks, but we’re not racists,” added Ryan, who sees the flag as a symbol of heritage, not hate.Indeed, leaders of the local Democratic party asked Ryan to take the flag down, but the county’s local NAACP chapter didn’t seem to mind.”Not if the intention is positive,” James Muwakkil, president of Lee County’s NAACP, told the station. “For us to be here in the Deep South, and to see whites embracing an African-American man — we love it.”
The Obama campaign refused to comment on the mixture of the images, but does say it welcomes the self-proclaimed rednecks support.
If all these idiot groups would focus on the real enemy, they might actually achieve something.
The National Front protest against a new Mosque in St. Mark’s Road.
Published on Monday 13 August 2012 11:55
NATIONAL Front protesters and anti facist groups had to be kept apart by police at the site of a proposed new mosque in Sunderland.
The NF demonstration against the building of the mosque in St Mark’s Road has led to heightened tensions in the area.
Police separated the two groups on either side of the street as concerned residents looked on.
Despite the tensions, police today said they were able to peacefully disperse the protesters shortly after 1pm on Saturday.
Officers were stationed outside the Chester Road mosque for the remainder of the weekendand in the city centre where the NF demo carried on.
Local NF activists were joined by others from across the country as they argued that the mosque posed a threat to the community and the safety of local children.
Simon Biggs, the group’s North East regional organiser, said: “It’s a mosque and it’s alien to this country. They’re still going ahead with it despite 1,400 people complaining about it.

Lt. Col. Terry Lakin is the author of Officer’s Oath: Why my Vow to Defend the Constitution Demanded that I Sacrifice my Career, a tell all first hand account of his faith and patriotism which ended up resulting in a court-martial, imprisonment and the stripping of all military rank and privileges, including his Army pension. All of this happened because he challenged Barack Obama’s eligibility. In reading this, one has to ask the question why would Barack Obama allow a fine military man like this to go to jail when he could have simply provided the documentation and that soldier would have done his duty.

A high-ranking Mexican drug cartel operative currently in U.S. custody is making startling allegations that the failed federal gun-walking operation known as “Fast and Furious” isn’t what you think it is.
It wasn’t about tracking guns, it was about supplying them — all part of an elaborate agreement between the U.S. government and Mexico’s powerful Sinaloa Cartel to take down rival cartels.
The explosive allegations are being made by Jesus Vicente Zambada-Niebla, known as the Sinaloa Cartel’s “logistics coordinator.” He was extradited to the Chicago last year to face federal drug charges.

The bumper sticker on the beat-up pickup truck read: “Friends don’t let friends vote Democrat.”
The driver was obviously not affluent. Yet, despite all the news about mega-trillion dollar bankster bailouts, mega-million dollar bonuses for financial crooks, and unimaginable compensation packages for corporate CEOs who have moved middle class jobs out of America, something made the down-and-out pickup truck driver associate with the political party of the super-rich.
As I wondered at this strange alliance of the dirt poor with the mega-rich, I remembered that in 2004 Thomas Frank wondered about how the Republicans had managed to convince the poor to vote against their best interests. Frank’s answer, or part of his answer, is that the Republicans use “social issues,” such as gay marriage and Janet Jackson’s exposed nipple to work up indignation over the threat to moral values posed by liberal Democrats.
The working poor have been convinced by Republican propaganda that voting Democrat means giving the working poor’s tax dollars to the non-working poor, to providing medical care and schooling for illegal aliens, and being soft on terrorism.
It was never an antiwar movement. It was an anti-Republican movement.

I am President Obama’s classmate at Columbia University, Class of ’83. I am also one of the most accurate Las Vegas oddsmakers and prognosticators. Accurate enough that I was awarded my own star on the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. And I smell something rotten in Denmark. Obama has a big skeleton in his closet. It’s his college records. Call it “gut instinct” but my gut is almost always right. Obama has a secret hidden at Columbia- and it’s a bad one that threatens to bring down his presidency. Gut instinct is how I’ve made my living for 29 years since graduating Columbia.
Obama and his infamous strategist David Axelrod understand how to play political hardball, the best it’s ever been played. Team Obama has decided to distract America’s voters by condemning Mitt Romney for not releasing enough years of his tax returns. It’s the perfect cover. Obama knows the best defense is a bold offense. Just keep attacking Mitt and blaming him for secrecy and evasion, while accusing him of having a scandal that doesn’t exist. Then ask followers like Senator Harry Reid to chase the lead. The U.S. Senate Majority Leader appears to now be making up stories out of thin air, about tax returns he knows nothing about. It’s a cynical, brilliant, and vicious strategy. Make Romney defend, so he can’t attack the real Obama scandal.

In politics as in life, the squeaky wheel usually gets the grease, but the other three wheels are finally telling the squeaky wheel to shut the hell up.
Fast food and public protests typically hold as much appeal for me as rectal cancer, yet last week I simultaneously exposed myself to fast food and a public protest with a pair of visits to the local Chick-fil-A franchise.
I popped in last Wednesday at around 9PM to find the restaurant still overflowing with customers like muffin-top fat rolls over tight polyester trousers because it was Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. Many of the patrons were obese, red-cheeked, flat-topped, checker-shirted, effusively wholesome Southern peckerwoods, which is atypical for the neighborhood and suggests a smidgen of Astroturfing from the pro-Christian, anti-gay-marriage crowd.

Two weeks back, the state of Texas sent convicted murderer Marvin Wilson on a KCI-addled one-way trip to oblivion. News of this came to my attention via the Huffington Post, which made a big how-to about the potassium-punctured perp’s IQ. Leading with the headline “Texas Puts Man with 61 IQ to Death”, HuffPo made mention of a variety of testimonies regarding Wilson’s intelligence…
