By Paul Taylor Pew Research Center Demographic transformations are dramas in slow motion. America is in the midst of two right now. Our population is becoming majority non-white at the same time a record share is going gray. Each of these shifts would by itself be the defining […]
Here’s the money quote: “It would be a far, far better thing if Harvard and Brandeis and Mozilla would simply say, explicitly, that they are as ideologically progressive as Notre Dame is Catholic or B. Y.U. is Mormon or Chick-fil-A is evangelical, and that they intend to run […]

It used to be that homosexuals were subject to criminal prosecution, psychiatric incarceration, and severe professional and economic sanctions. See this old CBS documentary from 1967 for an example what the old order was like. Now, half a century later it seems the homosexual rights movement is bent […]
The sex worker rights movement is growing at the same time that the anti-sex trafficking hysteria continues to expand. Look for these two to clash on the Left in the future. Another crack in the PC coalition. By Katha Pollit The Nation (AP Photo/Isaac Brekken) On the left, […]
By Noah Millman The American Conservative Well, it all depends on what data you emphasize. Gallup put out two recent pieces suggesting the answer is: yes. The first demonstrated that, over the course of time, whites as a whole have gotten more Republican, and more reliably so: In recent […]
“It’s always funny when people jump the gun and assume I’m some sort of conspiracy theorist or something like this. I’m interested in that stuff because we have 20 million people in the US who believe the ruling class is trying to kill us. That’s kind of interesting. […]
He sure sounds like it. Hedges is an example of what a serious Left would look like, although he’s still obviously not as radical as ARV-ATS.
Katy Murphy San Jose Mercury News A bill that would have let California voters reconsider the state’s 16-year-old ban on race-conscious college admissions is off the table, its author announced on Monday. By Jonah Goldberg Real Clear Politics Cancel the philosophy courses, people. Oh, and we’re going to be shuttering the political science, religion, and pre-law departments too. We’ll keep some of the English and history folks on for a while longer, but they should probably keep their résumés handy. […]
By Kathy Shaidle Taki’s Magazine “[L]ibertarians can generally be divided into two camps: humanitarians and brutalists.” That’s Jeffrey A. Tucker’s provocative proposition in a widely discussed new article in The Freeman. Humanitarian libertarians value the principle of liberty, Tucker writes, because—among other things—it permits freedom of association and […]

By Jeffrey Tucker The Libertarian Standard “Best article I’ve read in decades.” That’s the message I received from so many people when my article “Against Libertarian Brutalism” first appeared. A day later, I started to receive a different message. “This article is evil and you are evil for […]
Recently, Jeffrey Tucker, formerly of the Mises Institute, published a piece in The Freeman, a publication of the Foundation for Economic Education, that has generated some controversy in libertarian circles. Here’s the original piece. Tucker is basically arguing there are two kinds of libertarians: the nice, friendly, touchy-feely, […]
The American Conservative is ironically now the most left-wing print publication out there with a relatively mainstream orientation. My own studies of the “culture wars” leads me to the conclusion that it mostly represents a class conflict between the traditional WASP elite and the rising upper middle class […]
This piece argue against Bill Bishop’s “Big Sort” thesis. By Samuel J. Adams and Morris P. Fiorina Hoover Insitution In 2008, journalist Bill Bishop achieved the kind of notice that authors dream about. His book, The Big Sort: Why the Clustering of Like-Minded America Is Tearing Us Apart, […]
This article by Jeffrey Tucker has created something of a stir in libertarian circles. By Jeffrey Tucker Foundation for Economic Education Why should we favor human liberty over a social order ruled by power? In providing the answer, I would suggest that libertarians can generally be divided into […]
As I wrote back in 2003: The issues that motivate those on the margins-radical environmentalism, gun rights absolutism, racial nationalism, socialism, radical feminism, queer power, religious fundamentalism-mean nothing to most people. The ordinary citizen is concerned only with his own day to day business. His issues are unemployment, […]
A good discussion of the growth of the police state and prison-industrial complex in the USA between Michelle Alexander and Bill Moyers. Watch the video. After civil rights lawyer Michelle Alexander published her book The New Jim Crow in 2010 on our dehumanizing system of incarceration, she ignited […]
In this interview and in a recent article in Harper’s magazine, leftist-socialist commentator Adolph Reed Jr. says about the center-left in the USA what I’ve been saying for years: That’s they’ve become increasingly fixated on pushing cultural politics and getting more folks from traditional outgroups into the ranks […]
The consequences of mistaking the divisible for the indivisible or Moscow next Tuesday It’s hard to ignore the blatant contradictions and rank hypocrisy of the “Free World ™” exposed by the Ukrainian Crisis. Indeed if the goal of Vladimir Putin and the Russian Federation was to demonstrate the […]
Religious liberty is a deeply radical concept. It was at this country’s founding and it hasn’t become less so. Preserving it has always been a full-time battle. But it’s important, because religion is at the core of people’s identity. A government that tramples religious liberty is not a […]
I see no reason why traditionalists and leftist cannot peacefully co-exist within the context of decentralized political systems and autonomous enclaves. Those who object to such arrangements merely expose themselves for what they are: either aspiring totalitarians or just plain intolerant assholes. “As I see it, there are […]
A note to my paleo-leaning friends: Immigration restriction is a failed movement, a political dead end. Americans are becoming more immigration-friendly, as they have with marijuana decriminalization and gay marriage. Still, there are alternatives to both compulsory multiculturalism and totalitarian humanism from the Left and old-fashioned nationalism (or […]
My take on the question of discrimination law: Genuinely private and voluntary associations (i.e. those with no connection to the state) should be allowed to discriminate against anyone they wish for any reason they wish. However, government agencies (funded by the taxpayers), private cartels allied with the state […]
In the last couple of years, I have noticed that just as the anti-drug hysteria of past decades has started to wane and the War on Drugs is becoming more unpopular, a corresponding and comparable hysteria over “sex trafficking” has emerged to take its place and repression of […]
Clearly, Americans very much need the message of pan-anarchism. It’s up to us to make it happen. Of course, a big question is the degree to which the left/right divide will be altered by rising class polarization. By Paul Waldman The American Prospect This morning, one of my […]

These Right Stuff guys are harder on the left-libertarians than I am. Sheesh. By Bulbasaur TheRightStuff.Biz I. Discrimination To discriminate, or not to discriminate? That is the question. …That is to say, this is the distortion of reality presented by a modern media. Support gay sex or face gay sex in prison. The argument is typically framed as one side discriminating […]
By Sheldon Richman Should the government coercively sanction business owners who, out of apparent religious conviction, refuse to serve particular customers? While such behavior is repugnant, the refusal to serve someone because of his or her race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation is nevertheless an exercise of self-ownership and […]
A very good piece on the Ukraine by my uber-critic Matthew Lyons. My take on the conflict in the Ukraine is that the United States should stay out of it. Beyond that, I have no position on what’s going on there. It’s none of my business. By Matthew […]
Hunter Schwarz Buzz Feed Abby Carney got a call from MTV to be in a docuseries about virgins in August. The 23-year-old Austin freelance writer caught the attention of producers for a still-untitled virgin-themed show after she wrote a piece about waiting to have sex for XOJane, but […]
“The anti-cannabis campaign is a cancerous tissue of lies, undermining law enforcement, aggravating the drug problem, depriving the sick of needed help, and suckering well-intentioned conservatives and countless frightened parents” ~ William F. Buckley, 1983
By Meghan Lords With the media frenzy in full tilt after the closing of MtGox, there have been quite a few articles coming out declaring the death of bitcoin and an equal number reassuring us that it will be just fine. I won’t link to the former ones […]
From the Inferno. Been getting quite the backlash from this one from (other) “pro-choicers” (who seem to miss the point entirely). ________________ Of all the court cases the press have pored over recently, none have fascinated me more than that of John Welden, who recently started a 14-year […]
Dreams Deferred November. Kiev’s main square has been occupied, there have been dramatic scenes of heavy fighting between militant protestors and police, and government buildings have been stormed and occupied too. But it was the fascist flags that first caught my eye when the protests escalated suddenly to […]
A lot of these “far right” writers are pretty good at criticizing the excesses of the Left/PC, which is why I draw on a lot of their material. The book by Jim Kalb that’s being reviewed in this piece is actually quite good. I know both Jim and […]
As one who has been very critical of many aspects of the conventional left/right model of the political spectrum, I always find it interesting to observe how my own work is perceived by sympathizers and critics alike, and from both the Left and the Right. What I often […]
Those of us who weren’t alive in the 1960s have likely seen clips from television and movies showing Right-wingers chastising hippies and liberals over their long hair, casual demeanor and less-than-formal dress. Conservatives also often used rhetoric about how liberals were traitors and should leave the United States. Pro-Vietnam War veterans complaining about how Jane […]

A rather spirited debate between a socialist and a free-market libertarian on the McDonaldized economy. The problem I see with this discussion is that it’s a pissing contest between two polarized extremes, without any give and take, and without more moderate voices being heard. But it makes for […]
By Kevin Vallier Bleeding Heart Libertarians A number of my co-bloggers strongly identify with the libertarian left. Typically being a member of the libertarian left in the libertarian movement means holding that standard libertarian political views are natural compliments to standard left-wing social views, such as concerns about […]
No doubt about it. By Bill Frezza Once in a great while a writer at the opposite end of the political spectrum gets you to look at a familiar set of facts in a new way. Disconcerting as it is, you can feel your foundation shift as your […]

By Robert Wenzel LewRockwell.Com/Economic Policy Journal Justice Clarence Thomas recently told Palm Beach Atlantic University students that obsession over trivial identity-based sleights has reached an all-time high: My sadness is that we are probably today more race and difference-conscious than I was in the 1960s when I went to school.
