War is Boring
American volunteers heading to Ukraine are learning their role in the war isn’t as “heroic” as advertised, according to some of the men who return after abandoning their duties.
For one so-called veteran and “Boogaloo Boy,” Ukraine’s various foreign legions were revealed to be a “trap,” where members coming from out of the country were effectively pressed into service, their passports, and other items stripped from them.
28-year-old Henry Hoeft, who served in the US Army Infantry before becoming a steelworker in Ohio, left earlier this month to fight in Ukraine, only to learn that the foreign legion of choice was not what it seemed.
Joining up with the Georgian National Legion, Hoeft was optimistic. One week later, however, he began to become disillusioned.
“People need to stop coming here,” he said on social media.
Hoeft described the situation for foreign volunteers, who are effectively used as poorly-equipped cannon fodder in order to draw Russians into ambushes carried out by Ukrainian forces.
Hoeft went on to discuss how his base was “f**ed up” by a Russian attack and that members of his unit were told to “get the f**k out” after they refused an order to defend Kiev with partially-filled magazines and inferior equipment.
Realizing the severity of the situation, Hoeft and another comrade hid in an ambulance heading to the border and stripped themselves of all their military gear.
“It’s a trap,” he said in a video.
