It’s been a journey for everyone, not least Odysseus, who as of late has been transported to the big screen in Christopher Nolan’s box-office-blowout adaptation of the epic poem. Nolan cuts out “so much that is funny, beautiful, witty, and poetic,” Katha Pollitt argues. Christian Lorentzen calls it “joyless.”
