The speaker is Tony Bouza, whom I met in the 1970s in New York City when he was top cop for the Bronx. He had powerful and unusual ideas to reform and improve police departments which he could brilliantly express. He wrote nine books. He became the chief of police in Minneapolis Minnesota and was considered a troublemaking shake up the police radical with new approaches. During this interview he talks about undercover work regarding Malcolm X and Louis Farrakhan. I filmed this interview with him in 1989 when I was doing a television series on the 1960s. He could talk straight about why he used undercover cops in the late 1960s, a time of violence in the streets and a radically split nation. He saw firsthand how police going undercover could expose and stop uncover criminal behavior that he said, saved lives. I assume that the police are still doing undercover police today with extreme groups on the right and the left.
