“The Nation” Makes a Mayoral Endorsement

MAY 30, 2025
New Yorkers deserve better than Andrew Cuomo
The Nation Endorses Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander in the New York City Democratic Primary →
After four years of corruption and chaos, New Yorkers have a chance to end Eric Adams’s compromised tenure—and, in his place, choose a mayor worthy of leading the country’s largest city.

That’s why today, The Nation’s editors penned an endorsement for State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani and New York City comptroller Brad Lander. Both candidates would make principled leaders of New York City and both would be fierce defenders of all its residents from the predations of Donald Trump—from his pernicious education agenda and slashing of funding for the sciences to his attacks on immigrants and the judicial system.

Given the nature of New York’s ranked-choice system, we are urging New Yorkers to rank Mamdani as their first choice and Lander as their second. Please read our endorsement to learn more, and share it with your friends. (And if you are a Nation reader in New York City, please vote in the Democratic primary on June 24.)
