In our system of soft totalitarian police statism and hyper criminalization, with an arcane legal code creating hundreds of thousands of arrestable acts, everyone is technically a “criminal,” which is one reason why I can’t get too worked up about “crime” on a general level. By all means, loot Target. However, the question is one of who “wins” the lottery of actually getting arrested or prosecuted. Is Bannon being targeted because of his former association with Trump? If so, why and by whom? The Deep State settling scores? Trump’s associates trying to eliminate a lingering liability? Democraps attempting to attack Trump indirectly by going after a well-known one-time crony?

In a news release, prosecutors said Bannon and another organizer, Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage, lied when they claimed they would not take any compensation as part of the campaign, called “We Build The Wall.” Bannon, prosecutors alleged, received more than $1 million through a nonprofit he controlled, sending hundreds of thousands to Kolfage while keeping a “substantial portion” for himself.
