In this video, the latest installment of “The Twitter Files” is discussed. Matt Taibbi reveals that the long-standing claim of Russian bots controlling online discourse and brainwashing Americans is actually not the case. The video analyzes the work of Hamilton 68, a dashboard funded by a neo-liberal D.C. based think tank, that claimed to monitor over 600 accounts associated with Russian influence operations. However, Twitter execs discovered that only 36 of the 644 accounts listed on Hamilton 68 were registered in Russia, and the remaining were mostly real people, including political dissidents and humorists, who found themselves on the list due to having opinions that counter the US desired narrative. This list was used to fuel thousands of news headlines and damaged our ability to think, speak, and discuss freely.
