SA joins global nail-biting over US elections while Agoa uncertainties persist

US presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have taken vastly different stances on Africa, with much of SA, but not all, likely to be rooting for Harris.

🇺🇸🗳️ Donald Trump and Kamala Harris ended their campaigns in Pennsylvania, the largest of the battleground states, on Monday. Both campaigns expressed messages of optimism, encouraging those who have not already voted to do so.
🇷🇺🇲🇩 Russia has called the Moldovan election the “most undemocratic” in the country’s history. Given that Russia has very little idea of what a free and fair election even smells like, pro-European incumbent Maia Sandu should take this as a compliment.
💵🤡 Elon Musk’s lawyer has admitted that a $1-million voter giveaway was not random, and that the winners were picked based on their suitability for Musk’s political action committee. The admission was made at a hearing where the court was attempting to stop the practise on the grounds that it was an illegal lottery.
🇬🇧🚭 Britain plans to impose a ban on smoking outside schools, hospitals and playgrounds. The effort is aimed at easing strain on the NHS, and the cost to taxpayers. An initial thought to also expand this ban to outside pubs and cafes was pulled back to shield the hospitality industry.
