IT is always a sobering experience to come to terms with the fact that decades of kidnapping, hijacking and bombing have failed to win back a single inch of Arab territory. Be it the PFLP, Al-Aqsa Martyr Brigade, Hamas, Abu Nidal Organisation, Carlos the Jackal or anyone else, the only good to come out of such operations is that the general public is now more familiar with the plight of the Palestinians than ever before.
The bad, on the other hand, substantially outweighs that good. Many innocent people have been harmed by these actions, some of which have been cynically used to advance the narrow interests of the Syrian and Iraqi governments, if not Mossad and the CIA, and of course the Israelis are always waiting to twist the actions of the freedom fighters themselves – as desperate and hopeless as they may be – to their own advantage.
Sadly, the Arabs reached an impasse many years ago and there will be no liberation for Palestine so long as nation-states elsewhere remain intact. This is why all of us must play our part by standing shoulder to shoulder against the parasites in Washington, London, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Berlin, Moscow and throughout the so-called ‘civilised’ world. The Zionist occupation is global and Palestine, caught within the iron grip of a single tentacle, is merely the front-line in what remains a common struggle. If we are to bring this villainous Empire to an end, rather than consume its sanitised gloss from the relative comfort of a luxury sofa, then we must all become barbarians.
