| If you’ve been a First Thing reader for longer than a minute, you’ll notice that we cover a lot of US politics. It is because of two reasons. First, the time zone difference is such that all the spicy things in the news world are happening generally in the Americas or Asia while you’re all sleeping. Second, what the US does, affects your lives.
Nonsense, I hear many cry. And yet, the sayings about American influence worldwide beg to differ. That when America sneezes, it’s the world that catches a cold, and that America, like an elephant, affects us all whenever it so much as makes one step.
This is true, whether we like it or not. Anyone who noticed a distinctly kak 2008 due to the financial crisis can thank the US and its crazy economy for that. Gatvol of taking your belt off at the security scanners in every airport ever? That’ll be the US and its global war on terror. Anyone who works in business priced in US$ likely needs zero explanations at all.
So, when we write about the US elections, what Kamala Harris’s policies are versus Donald Trump, it’s not due to some sort of western bias, as our comment trolls believe. It’s because those policies, when placed in executive powers, become very real levels that influence our daily lives.
This has been a public service announcement ahead of what I like to term “the crazy month” before the US elections. From here on out, especially with Trump back on the ticket, the campaign promises, jibes and attack ads are only going to get more unhinged. Buckle up readers, we’re almost there! |
