The Flying Car Is Here. It’s Slightly Illegal

The flying car has been a running joke about the future since at least The Jetsons, but for $249 you can now rent the LIFT Hexa for a joyride. It’s one of a new generation of electric aircraft that, like a supersize drone, can take off and land vertically from a spot no bigger than a parking space. When Jeff Wise started looking into these flying cars a few months ago, he noticed something surprising: They are not entirely legal. You won’t get pulled over while hovering above the ground, but the FAA has some rules that Silicon Valley types have creatively interpreted. Read his piece and decide if living in the future is worth the risk.
