REMEMBERING VICTOR NAVASKY, 1932-2023
Victor NavaskyThe Nation’s longtime editor, publisher, publisher emeritus, and founder of its internship program—passed away at the age of 90 in late January. Victor devoted much of his life to building The Nation as a vital home for progressive journalism and commentary, and our community honored his legacy with tributes and remembrances, some of which are gathered in this week’s print issue. Former assistant editor and columnist Kai Bird, editor D.D. Guttenplan, editorial director and publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel, and Hamilton Fish—who was publisher of The Nation during Victor’s tenure as editor—all reflect on Victor’s long and storied journalism career. Victor left an indelible mark on The Nation, and remained a constant and inspiring presence at the magazine. We will miss him. ⁣
