You Can’t Be Pro-Life and Pro-War

I’m a creature of sonic evolution, dearest motherfuckers. A hand grenade with Luna moth wings. It’s rather ironic for a diagnosed agoraphobic but the only thing that’s evolved more than my fluid gender identity is my equally fluid ideology. In thirty short years I’ve evolved from indentured Catholic to agnostic existentialist to Gnostic Christian witch, from juvenile anarcho-punk to Bolivarian Bolshevik tankie to panarcho-syndicalist gadfly. One thing that hasn’t changed throughout this intellectual metamorphosis however is a life long devotion to the sanctity of life.

Being a far-left pro-lifer has always seemed like a contradiction to most of my ilk but it has always made perfect sense to me. Egalitarianism in all its dimensions has always been about the stewardship of the weak in humanity by the strong. I actually believe that my early pro-life values are largely responsible for informing my radicalism rather than contradicting it. In a strange bid of karma, the Catholic Church may have accidentally created this church-burning commie-pinko by instilling those values in me at an impressionable age. I guess you could say I did a reverse Dorothy Day, from devout do-gooder to bomb-throwing heretic, sunrise, sunset.

This doesn’t mean that I’m on the same page with the pro-life movement at large, not by a long shot. I personally find your average pro-lifer to be a self-serving, single-minded, chauvinistic, pig-fucker with a severe penile Napoleon complex. As much as I despise the idea abortion, I’ve come to the hard conclusion that you can’t regulate someone else’s body without creating a berth for tyranny too wide for any self-respecting anarchist to tolerate. My approach to the issue has essentially become one of harm reduction. Combat abortion by making it irrelevant through the proliferation of affordable alternatives like the morning after pill. I feel that with this issue the bulk of the pro-life movement has revealed themselves to be puritanical hypocrites, more concerned with policing behavior than creating viable alternatives for desperate young women. As two thirds of a female and a feminist to boot, I find this hypocrisy to be particularly hard to swallow. You don’t have to be pro-choice to recognize that a rape victim doesn’t deserve to be polluted by a monster’s progeny, you just have to not be a dick. A tall order for too many of my fellow pro-lifers.

  1. This is an ABSOLUTELY AWESOME article! Hey Keith, it will be very to see you reach out to Pro-Life Feminists alongside Secular Pro-lifers as well as Left-wing and nonreligious/non-traditional pro-lifers such as myself. here’s some of the best sources for info like secularprolife.org, propeaceprolife.org (Rehumanize Intl.), & prolifehumanists.org to name a few. The mainstream pro-life movement is indeed hypocritical and fraudulent. Meanwhile, the Secular Pro-Life & Pro-Life Feminist movements are far much more authentic, consistent, and honest. I’m leftwing, I’m pro-life, & I’m not even religious, there’s secular reasons why babies deserve to live both in and out of the lady’s womb. Cheers, Keith Preston!

      • I only wish though. William Gillis has been too harsh on leftwing pro-lifers such as myself. C4SS is still awesome, but it does have some big flaws & weaknesses though. Jason Lee Byas should’ve been in charge of C4SS rather than William Gillis. William Gillis has been proven to be weak in leadership. He does have some pretty cool ideas sometimes, but he’s still weak in leadership.

        • My approach is precisely the opposite of theirs. They seem to be more about enforcing leftist ideological party line, whereas my perspective is that within a general anti-authoritarian framework, no idea gets taken off the table. The C4SSers used to push something called “thick libertarianism,” which is the idea that opposing the state needs to be bolstered by an underlying cultural framework. I agree, but we have opposite views on what the cultural framework would be. I say it’s the hybrid of classical liberalism and utopian socialism that classical anarchism evolved from (along with the wider Socratic tradition). Whereas their preferred cultural framework seems to be the standard PC/SJW/Antifa/critical theory/repressive tolerance/callout culture paradigm.

    • Hey rls89zx, I’m always interested in talking with prolife people from the left for at least two reason (1) why most of the left fails to be prolife and (2) how you derive a prolife stance from left-wing values.

A couple of years ago I interviewed the President of Secular Prolife Kelsey Hazzard here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHP8VkGzoyU

If you follow ATS regularly I probably need no introduction.

Would you be interested in talking about anarchism, the left and pro-life issues? I think it would be very interesting.

      • That was an AWESOME chat you had with Kelsey Hazzard, & she’s such a cute babe. She’s especially adorable with a bob haircut, & she will be even cuter with her bob having blunt bangs & wearing Lolita dresses (Lolita is a popular Japanese fashion style that’s Victorian-inspired, & quite popular with women , especially moms who love looking cute when wearing such fashion so much nowadays that there’s now Lolita maternity dresses) alongside pretty Mary Janes (as in the shoes) on her feet, loosened of course.
I would so love to fantasize about playing Cinderella with Kelsey Hazzard. I’d do love to play Cinderella with her when given the chance & if she allows me to touch her shoes (including taking off her shoes) and feet If I politely ask permission.
Now, when it comes to anarchist views on abortion, it tends to range from Pro-Life all the way & Personally Pro-Life to full blown antinatalism. Although anarchists tend to be mixed & neutral on such a terrible & disgusting thing like abortion, at least it’s wonderful that most anarchists prefer to avoid abortion altogether, anarchism can be prolife though. https://www.reddit.com/r/Anarchy101/comments/309uyu/what_do_anarchists_think_of_abortion/
There’s actually anarchist opposition to abortion, believe it or not, most notably Emma Goldman and Dorothy Day. Emma was well known for being anti-abortion and pro-birth control while Dorothy Day once had an abortion and really suffered so much from it, she called it the tragedy of her life, viewing it as the absolute root cause of women’s oppression alongside oppression in general.
Sadly, one of my most favorite anarchist thinkers, Benjamin Tucker, has been quite misguided on this particular issue. abortion not only kills babies, it also kills women too, & people also need to realise that abortion is anti-feminist by design.
Unfortunately, one of my favorite anarchist organizations, Center for a Stateless Society (C4SS), has sadly been misguided on such a very unethical thing, even though William Gillis has been aware of Leftwing pro-lifers such as myself along with Pro-Life Feminists, but he has been too harsh on them, which makes me feel quite disappointed with him.
We need to realise the fact that the polar opposite of Pro-Life is antinatalism, clear & simple. Plus, Emma Goldman will be so completely disgusted to see an abortion clinic named after her, when in fact that it’s very obvious that she (Emma Goldman) is just as very anti-abortion as Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, & all the other women that are big influences on Pro-Life Feminism. The only big difference between Emma Goldman & Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, etc. is that Goldman is an anarchist while Anthony, Paul, etc. were Suffragetes. they would all view the so-called 1960s Women’s Liberation a complete FRAUD!
1)hmm, why the mainstream Left failed to be prolife, I think it’s all about misunderstanding & miscommunication. & 2) The pro-life stance is actually more of a social justice human rights cause if you actually think about it, & it’s the racist conservative Republican Nazis who are behind Roe vs. Wade, that & Bohemian Grove conspiracy theories are enough full proof that Conservative Republicans are actually Pro-abortion, believe it or not. All the Media Narratives are absolute big fat LIES!
My name is Robert Smith and it’s great to meet you too.

        • “Unfortunately, one of my favorite anarchist organizations, Center for a Stateless Society (C4SS), has sadly been misguided on such a very unethical thing, even though William Gillis has been aware of Leftwing pro-lifers such as myself along with Pro-Life Feminists, but he has been too harsh on them, which makes me feel quite disappointed with him.”

That’s because William Gillis is the same kind of ideological fanatic and moralist zealot as the fascists, Bolshies, and theocrats he claims to oppose. Gillisland would be the DDR only with less frequent bathing. That kind of stuff was a problem in classical anarchism as well, which led to atrocities in various places such as Spain and Ukraine.

        • what subculture are you talking about? I’m just curious, I have autism, I’m leftwing, I’m pro-life, & I’m not even religious. there’s secular reasons why babies deserve to live both in and out of the womb. what’s wrong with Pro-Life Feminism, you schmuck. Politically, I’m a Left-libertarian, economically, I’m a Mutualist, Spiritually, I’m a New Age Pantheist, Sex wise, I’m hetero all the way, & culturally, I’m a weeaboo (weeb), a westerner who loves modern Japanese Culture such as anime, manga, games, etc.

          • “what subculture are you talking about?”

The one where people call themselves “gnostic christian witches”.

            “I have autism”

            No shit.

            • So you have the mind of a twelve year old girl, you like anime and My Little Pony, and you are retarded and have mental diseases. You hate the state, but you are an extinction level failure that could not exist without a nanny-state to protect you. You will end up as a 350 pound burn out on disability for retarded with a government issued fatty scooter to take your fat ass to the hospital for more taxpayer funded medicine.

  2. By far the single, greatest sentence I’ve read in a long time. It pulls no punches and is from the heart. “I personally find your average pro-lifer to be a self-serving, single-minded, chauvinistic, pig-fucker with a severe penile Napoleon complex”. Except inappropriate actions with pigs, it describes me to a tee. And I love it!
