How to Run a Successful Gun Shop

Owning and running a successful gun shop involves a lot more than first meets the eye. With many legal requirements and laws that need to be followed to attracting and keeping local customers, you need to know what you’re doing before you go jumping in head first. You need to have the knowledge and understanding of what it takes to make a successful business, and then understand all your guns and ammo. Follow these top tips and you’ll be up and running in no time.

Good Service

As with any shop, customers want to come in and feel welcomed and know what help is available if needed. Most successful gun shops are local ones, with local custom. Building a rapport with your customers will make them want to come back, as they will have the trust that they are buying from the right person. Purchasing a gun is a very important decision and should not be taken lightly – people look for those who know their stuff about guns and can make a purchase simple and easy. This is very important to think about when hiring employees, you need someone who is good with people, not just someone who looks good on paper and knows their stuff.

Good Prices and Location

The first thing people look at before entering a store is prices. If they can get the same gun at two places and one is cheaper, which store will they choose? The answer is simple – price matters. Therefore, you need to understand gun prices and what makes a good deal. Research, visit other shops and see what they sell and how they sell it. You also need to know where to buy your guns and ammo from. Again, this comes from lots and lots of research. When choosing a venue for your gun shop, it’s perhaps best to start where people know you, as this way you can start selling immediately. There is no point opening a gun shop when there is one across the road – location matters!

Finance and Taxation

One of the hardest things about running a successful business, whether a gun shop or barbers, is understanding the finance and taxation side that comes with it. Taxation can be a very confusing thing and with the laws clamping down hard on taxation, you need to know what you are doing in order to avoid making any mistakes. Completing an online MST program can give you the confidence to run your own gun shop without having to worry about the financial and taxation side of things. As an online master of science in taxation is all online thanks to Northeastern University, you can complete it in your spare time, meaning it’s never been easier to become an expert in taxation.

There are many things you need to be aware of when starting up your own gun shop, but by following these simple tips, you will own a successful business in no time.

  1. I just get my guns at gun shows. The few gun stores I’ve gone to have weird guys with bad attitudes working there. I’ve yet to figure out why this always seems to be the case, but I’ve read comments from quite a few other gun buyers who’ve noticed the same thing.

There’s a gun store near my house that I never go to simply because of the lousy employees.

    Dear Gun Store Owners:

Your employees are really NOT experts, and your potential customers really do NOT want to deal with unprofessionalism, weirdness, or bad attitudes. And do not hire the “I’M MR. GUN-GUY!”
