Occupy DC organizer favors secession to create 'new' United States

In an interview with the Daily Caller, Occupy DC organizer Anthony Sluder called for secession in order to create a “new United States.”

Sluder said the group is working on a declaration and have finished the preamble.

“I read it last night and I cried,” he said, adding that only one sentence was approved by the group.

“It’s a slow process,” he said, explaining the group is doing what the founders did in 1775 “when they developed the Constitution.”

Perhaps Sluder was referring to the Declaration of Independence, since the Constitution was written in 1787.

When asked if he would like to see an “Occupy DC” government, Sluder said he believed the area “occupied” by the group is already separate from everything going on around it.

“We are the Republic of Occupy DC,” Sluder said, adding that the group had everything it needs to be a self-sustaining community.

Sluder told the Daily Caller he hopes to see a declaration of independence, either from the city of Washington, D.C. or the United States as a whole.

“I would be in favor of secession to further our line to become the new United States,” he said.

In early October, Occupy Wall Street organizer Harrison Schultz told MSNBC’s Al Sharpton that revolution was the goal of the protests.

“Part of the problem, part of the issue is that I think that a lot of the people that are here are in fact anarchists, are in fact revolutionaries,” Schultz said.

He continued: “And putting a revolution, putting a revolutionary change into political terms is very difficult to do. Because we’re trying to get away from all the problems.”

“Again, we don’t really want to fix them: it’s revolution, not reform,” he said, admitting the protests are about instigating a revolution in America.

Earlier in the week, former Idaho state Senator Mary Lou Reed heaped praise on the protests in an article for the Pacific Northwest Inlander:

The Occupy Wall Street initiators are committed to peaceful non-violence within their encampment and in the face of police attention. And we are told they are also committed to supporting, helping and even liking each other. Idealistic, yes, but strong team-building vows, as well.

Unfortunately, the determination to let everyone’s voice be heard has muddied the clarity of the crusaders’ message. On Oct. 17, the New York Times reported a committee assembled to codify the protesters’ demands has been meeting overtime.
Occupy Wall Street/Occupy Everywhere is obviously still a work in progress. We can’t imagine where Big MO will take the Movement next.
Apparently, it seems some in the movement now want to secede from the Union.  The question must be asked – is this what Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Joe Biden want as well?
