    Brilliant article, I got a similar response as she did when I expressed interest in Detroit.

  2. I spent some time in Detroit in 2007 and 2008 and it reminded me of an American city from the 70s (being that I’m old enough to remember what the 70s looked like). It was like there had been no economic development there since then. I agree that these kinds of efforts are the remedy, but these are also projects that will require the participation of large numbers of committed people. I guess our job would be to publicize such efforts and let people know there’s a way.

  3. Btw, there are plenty of sections of my own city that are in dire need of efforts of this kind and I’m sure that’s true of most American cities at present and will be even more so in the future as the economy continues to decline and class divisions widen.
