Growing Movement to Disband Police Departments 1

  1. Most of these towns are contracting with county sherriffs departments, which basically is a form of centralization from city to county power, though Minneapolis is an exception. Also, though county police are more centralized than city, except NYC which contains 5 counties, Sheriifs are directly elected while most police chiefs are appointed, making sherrifs more democratic.
